Early Inning Rally Leads Boise Past Missoula Friday
Fogel Knocks In 4 In Losing Effort Opposite the Hawks
BOISE, ID - The Missoula PaddleHeads would be the first team on the board in action Friday opposite the Boise Hawks.Behind a sacrifice fly from Adam Fogel, Missoula would hold the advantage in the top of the 3rd. After leading for the majority of the first 3 games of the series, the Hawks made sure Friday's game would have a much different feel behind a big offensive push in the next half inning.
A pair of home runs would key a rally for the Hawks that saw Boise jump out to a 4-run lead. Missoula would hang around throughout with home runs doing damage of their own. The PaddleHeads were never able to get back in front in any sequence after falling behind however allowing Boise to scrape by for the first time in the series in a 9-7 win over the PaddleHeads.
Home runs in consecutive at-bats from Patrick Marino, and Nich Klemp would highlight the Hawks' efforts in a 5-run rally in the bottom of the 3rd. Marino's blast would bring home 3 runs prior to a solo bomb to left field from Klemp. When the dust settled Boise held a 5-1 advantage. Marino would finish up 2-for-4 and Klemp was 1-for-4.
A solo home run from Mike Rosario would counter the rally from the Hawks in the 5th making the score 5-2. The rookie outfielder would have an outstanding night in the loss finishing 3-for-3 with 3 runs scored and a pair of RBIs. Boise would stretch its lead out however in quick order using a little small ball in the next frame.
After an RBI groundout from Tyler Jorgensen scored the first run of the bottom of the 6th, the Hawks would score its 2nd run of the inning in a unique way. With a runner at third, Kole Kaler would lay down a successful ' squeeze' bunt to bring home a run to make the score 7-2. Another rebuttal from the PaddleHeads however would tighten things right back up in the next half inning.
A pair of walks with the bases loaded to Fogel, and Rosario tacked on the first 2 runs of 3 that would score in the 7th. Collin Runge would then bring home another run on an RBI single to make the score 7-5. Runge would also draw a pair of walks finishing the contest 1-for-3. Boise would find one more push offensively to stretch its lead once more.
2 more runs came home for the Hawks in the bottom of the 7th giving them the cushion they would need in the end to come out on top for the first time. After an error led to one run, Jorgensen would record his second RBI in the contest on another RBI groundout to give the Hawks a 9-5 lead. These runs would prove to be needed thinking about the top of the 9th.
Fogel would put pressure on the Hawks in the top of the 9th hitting a towering home run to right field to bring home a pair of runs to bring the deficit to 2. The Southern California native had a fabulous night in the loss knocking in 4 runs to finish 3-for-3. It also marked the 3rd straight night in which the rookie left fielder has homered in the series.
Patrick Chung also continued his torrid pace from the top of the order scoring 2 runs in a 3-for-5 night at the plate. Chung has finished 8-for-11 in his at-bats to this point in action opposite the Hawks finishing with 2 hits or more in each of his 3 games played to this point. A few swings would be the key for Boise on this night however, allowing them to find the win column for the first time this week.
